![]() Satan possessed Judas and had him betray Jesus to death. Jesus’ death on the cross is the classic example of this. Anything that resembles a short-term victory for Satan is in fact being used by God for His ultimate victory. He knows exactly what Satan is going to do and allows it for specific reasons to bring His plan to completion.įrom this, we are reminded again that God is sovereign. Rather, he acts according to his own depraved nature, wanting to unleash destruction and evil upon the earth. Satan does not ask God, “what do you want me to do with this key?” and then happily obey God’s instructions. But his actions serve to accomplish God’s greater purposes. He believes that he can come up with cunning plans and strategies in order to defeat the Creator. Here we see the chess game between God and Satan. It was given to him at a specific time for a specific purpose. God Himself is the one in charge and the one who allowed him to have the key. The fact that he was given a key shows us that he is not the authority himself. Neither did he lock the inhabitants within. ![]() He was given a key – Satan is not the ruler of the abyss. Thus the most likely interpretation of this is that Satan himself is given the key to open this bottomless pit.Ģ. In Luke 10:18, Jesus says that He witnessed this, thus establishing His authority over and pre-existence to Satan. At least two other texts describe Satan himself in a very similar fashion as being like a star that fell from heaven (a). Since he is described as “fallen,” this would indicate that the being is an evil angel. This being is referred to as “he” and “him.” Suggestions as to the identity of this figure include a good or bad angel or Satan. I saw a star fallen from heaven to earth – Clearly this is a being and not an actual star. And they took as their wives any they chose.ġ. Genesis 6:2 – The sons of God saw that the daughters of man were attractive. After that he must be released for a little while. And he seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years, and threw him into the pit, and shut it and sealed it over him, so that he might not deceive the nations any longer, until the thousand years were ended. Revelation 20:1-3 – Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, holding in his hand the key to the bottomless pit and a great chain. I will ascend above the heights of the clouds Isaiah 14:12-14 – How you are fallen from heaven, Luke 10:18 – And he said to them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. What motivates them to torture mankind? What can we learn about demons from this?.What can you learn from these creatures by the description of their appearance?.Why would the people attacked by them want to die?.What does it mean that they “were given” power?
